To find the one you dream to spend the rest of your life with is nothing short of a miracle. To find the feeling of ‘home’ in another person, to know that the promises made to one another before your people is one of the greatest gifts this wee short life has to offer.
Emma and Eimer made this promise before their people at civil wedding ceremony at The Guildhall in Derry, Northern Ireland. The Guildhall is perhaps Derry’s most iconic building, steeped in history and fine architecture and an amazing location for a civil ceremony, I’d say it’s all the more historic after this union of hearts and families. Emma prepared for her day at home with family, Ballykelly city Eimer at The Ballyliffin Lodge on the shores of the wild Atlantic.
Our brides met shortly before walking the aisle, but only slightly – they chose a wonderful wee rite called a wedding day ‘first touch’, where a couple will get together with a touch and a few words of reassurance before the ceremony, but not seeing each other. It is just beautiful and bring so much comfort. Two brides entered with two proud daddies – there may have been a tear or two, or maybe just a wee thou of dust in daddy McIvor’s eye, who’s to say !? Songs and laughter, some tears surely, hugs and readings and tales made the ceremony very personal, mothers helped with the rings.
The coastline of Inishowen offers so much for photographic opportunities for weddings, and Ballyliffin is possibly the jewel of them all.
A soft-light calm day at the shore allowed them to wander and embrace and enjoy some time together and make some great memories. The song of the sea made for fine accompaniment. They travelled in a wonderful wee VW Bettle form my good pals at Cool Classics
We returned to the Ballyliffin Lodge, where their friends offered a massive welcome, the band got kindled up and the newlyweds took to the floor and had a very spontaneous and very energetic ‘first dance’ – the noise was raucous, the craic was mighty. The Ballyliffin Lodge hosts civil wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions all year long, the service and hospitality is the bets you will find, and she perches atop the hill in the village overlooking Pollan Strand all the way to Malin Head and the seas beyond.
Friends from Co. Derry, Donegal and Belfast and in fact the globe over made this day so special and so unique. I am sure they felt elation as well as victorious, finally married and on the journey together into the future that they may once have never believed. Emma and Eimer were still in each other’s arms as I left for home; safe in each other’s armsa place where I know they plan to be for a long time to come…
